HAMLET HAIL TO THE THIEF

Premiering now at Manchester's Factory International, and moving to Stratford-upon-Avon next month, get ready for Shakespeare’s great tragedy and Radiohead’s seminal album to collide in a fusion of theatre, music, and movement.

In Thom Yorke and directors Christine Jones and Steve Hoggett's production, Elsinore has become a surveillance state, where paranoia reigns and no one is spared a tragic unravelling. With music an integral part of the narrative, the story centres on Hamlet and Ophelia's awakening to the corruption revealed by ghosts and music.

Hamlet Hail to the Thief comes to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 4 June.

THE PLAY'S THE THING - NEW COLLECTION

Our free exhibition, The Play’s The Thing, is open once again for 2025/6, where you can explore a huge number of objects that reveal our rich, 100-year history and productions, plus curated items from different community groups.

This year, we've worked with three groups from our local community with experience of displacement from home, including Theatre Studio of Internationally Displaced People (IDP) Uzhik (pictured below right), Bradford College and Welcome Here Ukrainian Refugee Network.

Their co-curation has reflected themes of imagination and playfulness, with the groups choosing items from our collection to display, including props and costumes from King Lear, A Christmas Carol and Henry V.

Plus, the exhibition features a brand new film - from Uzhhorod to Stratford - that tells the story of the Ukrainian theatre company who performed King Lear in The Other Place last year.
