After the excitement of our 2025 Summer Season announcement, the final shows of our 2024-25 season have kicked off with no less gusto. Rupert Goold's stylish and gripping Hamlet is already taking audiences by storm in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, while our Co-Artistic Director, Daniel Evans, is wowing as the much-maligned monarch in Marlowe's Edward II in the Swan Theatre.

Meanwhile, some audiences are experiencing their first ever Shakespeare production, with our 80-minute First Encounters: The Tempest, and London audiences are being treated to a trio of RSC shows, with the arresting Kyoto, the enchanting My Neighbour Totoro and the much-loved hit, Matilda the Musical. Read on to find out what's on to do and see this March.

HAMLET

Grief can play tricks on the mind, even conjure ghosts. But when Hamlet’s dead father appears to him one night, he signals murder, not madness... Luke Thallon takes on the Dane in Rupert Goold's thrilling and tempestuous production, joined by Jared Harris, Nancy Carrol, Anton Lesser and Elliot Levey.

EDWARD II

When Edward II insists on ruling with the man he loves by his side, the Palace refuses. The establishment conspires to restore the natural order, plunging the country into a civil war and threatening the very existence of the monarchy...

Double Olivier Award-winner and RSC Co-Artistic Director Daniel Evans returns to the stage in Daniel Raggett’s production of Marlowe’s violent and tender play.

FIRST ENCOUNTERS: THE TEMPEST

A perfect storm brings a feuding family and a king together on a magical island in this 80-minute version of The Tempest, creating the perfect introduction to Shakespeare for young people aged 7-13 and their families.

First Encounters: The Tempest tours theatres, schools and community venues until 10 May, with performances in The Other Place, Stratford-upon-Avon on 25-29 March.

MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO

Winner of six Olivier Awards, this "utterly beguiling" (The Stage) and “jaw-dropping” (Metro) staging of the celebrated 1988 Studio Ghibli animated feature film opens on the West End this month.

Following on from two sell-out runs at the Barbican, you can once again experience this enchanting, coming-of-age story of the magical fantasy world of childhood and the transformative power of imagination.

My Neighbour Totoro opens at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London, on 8 March.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL

Winner of over 100 international awards, Matilda the Musical has been delighting audiences in London’s West End for more than 13 years. Inspired by the beloved children's book by Roald Dahl, with original songs by Tim Minchin, meet the extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

SIXTH FORM CONFERENCE: HAMLET

On 12 March, sixth-form English and Drama students are invited to explore Hamlet in more depth with this comprehensive study day. Enjoy a series of talks and practical events with academics, actors, creatives and practitioners. The day will include a range of exam-focused material including historical, social and political context, scene and character study, production choices and interpretation.

Don't forget to book tickets for the show in the evening (additional cost applies, £10 TikTok tickets may be available).
