An open casting call has been announced for the parts of Matilda and her classmates to join the company for the upcoming UK tour of Matilda The Musical, which kicks off on 6 October 2025.

For the role of Matilda, the production is looking for children aged 9 to 12 on 1 July 2025 and under 4’3” tall. Her classmates need to be aged 9 to 13 on 1 July 2025 - boys must be under 4’10” tall with unbroken voices, and girls must be under 4’6” tall - and all need to have brilliant dancing and singing skills!

Auditions will be held in Manchester during February and March 2025, and all children who audition must be available for the entire rehearsal period (July and August 2025) and performances (September 2025 to June 2026). They will also need to be based in - or within an hour's drive of - Manchester, so they can live at home and attend their schools during the rehearsal and production period.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

If you’d like to audition, you'll first need to make two or three 30-second films on your phone of you performing:

• A 30-second speech, poem or monologue
• A 30-second song (unaccompanied)
• A 30-second dance (optional)

The quality of the films doesn’t matter, but they shouldn't be any longer than 30 seconds.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE AUDITION?

If you're invited to audition, you'll be asked to perform a short poem, speech or monologue. You will also be asked to sing something and will be taught a dance from the show.
