The theatre hopes that the musical will bring visitors to the city as it emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic. It has also announced plans to work with partners in Rotterdam to develop an education program around the show.

Matilda The Musical opened in the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010. It transferred to the Cambridge Theatre, London in October 2011. Winner of 99 international awards, including 24 for Best Musical, Matilda The Musical is now approaching its tenth year in London. It has also toured the UK and the US and played on Broadway, as well as in Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
