See the dark world of The Red Shoes brought to life across our building in this installation by Associate Designer Bethan Wall.

INTO THE WOODS

Colin Richmond’s magical forest from The Red Shoes has escaped the Swan Theatre’s stage and taken root – on the ceiling. Explore two wintry woodland scenes created by associate designer Bethan Wall and experience the mystery and intrigue of the play for yourself.

The Red Shoes is part of our dark and delicious winter season, and is playing in the Swan Theatre from 7 November 2024 to 19 January 2025.

THE SHOEMAKER'S TRAIL

Explore our buildings with our free family trail inspired by our winter show, The Red Shoes. Sylvestor the Shoemaker has chosen his favourite shoes from our past productions and placed them around the theatre for you to discover. Which is your favourite pair? Explore the building and even create your own shoe designs to dazzle the Shoemaker in The Welcome Space.

Pick up the trail from leaflet racks around the Swan and Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bethan Wall is a London-based designer for performance. She is one of the 12 emerging designers who are recipients of the Linbury Prize for stage Design 2023, and she is currently working on The Red Shoes with designer Colin Richmond as her mentor.

Bethan is interested in why and how we tell stories to each other. In her theatrical designs she aims to weave performances together with real world events and places, transporting audiences elsewhere.
