ABOUT ASSISTED PERFORMANCES
AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES
Co-written by former Northern Ballet Premier Dancer Pippa Moore MBE and VocalEyes, Northern Ballet’s audio descriptions offer a unique insight into their productions and bring the performances to life.
You will hear descriptions of the movement, action and drama on stage with Prokofiev’s timeless music.
Audio description ticket holders are encouraged to take part in the free Touch Tour Insight Workshops, taking place before the audio described performances in the Paccar Room. These workshops introduce elements of the production to aid your understanding of the show. You will hear descriptions of the scenery, feel the props and costumes and discover the shapes and quality of the movement from the ballet with the aid of Pippa and company dancers.
Touch Tours will take place on 26 and 28 September. Call 01789 331275 or email access@rsc.org.uk for details of the next Touch Tour and to book.
In addition to the Touch Tour Insight Workshop you can hear pre-show notes which describe the set, props and costumes via your headset or audio description device, beginning 15 minutes before the performance.
Find out more about the experience of attending an Audio Described performance or Touch Tour Insight Workshop for a Northern Ballet production with the useful in depth video below presented by Amar Latif. Originally recorded for The One Show for Northern Ballet's production of Casanova.
CHILLED PERFORMANCES
A chilled performance takes a more casual approach to noise and movement in the auditorium, but the performance itself is unchanged. This performance is ideal for people who feel more at ease knowing they can go in and out of the auditorium during the show. This performance is for everybody and babes in arms are welcome (not walking or requiring their own seat).
Supporting resources
We offer a range of supporting resources for Northern Ballet's Romeo and Juliet including audio notes and a sonic story, which can be found here when available.
SONIC STORY
We offer a sonic story for Romeo & Juliet. This is a graphic which highlights the key sounds from throughout the performance. It's available to all audience members, but we hope it will be particularly useful for anyone who might benefit from understanding the sensory elements of the show before they see it.
