These special tours offer a rare insight into how theatre is created.
What you need to know
Tour duration: 75 minutes
For safety reasons, flat, enclosed, rubber-soled shoes must be worn on this tour.
As we enter the Level 4 band room area on the backstage tour, you will encounter elevated views across the venue. Please note that this area features a visible drop to the levels below from a significant height.
Time: The tour begins at 8.15am, taking place before the Royal Shakespeare Theatre building opens to the public. Pre-booking is therefore essential so remember to bring your tickets on your phone or as a printout. Unfortunately we won't be able to welcome latecomers so please ensure you arrive promptly for the start of the tour.
Getting here: Please arrive at Stage Door, located around the back of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre building, near the Swan Theatre's revolving door entrance. A sign will be placed outside to gather by and someone will collect you. Please keep to the pedestrian walkway and be aware of moving vehicles.
Access: Unfortunately as key backstage areas are only accessible via steps, you will need good mobility to explore the building and therefore the tour isn’t accessible for mobility scooters or wheelchair users.
Please note this tour doesn't include the backstage of the Swan Theatre.
