Bally Gill and Karen Fishwick announced as the RSC’s Romeo and Juliet

Today the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced who will play the roles of Romeo and Juliet in the forthcoming production at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bally Gill and Karen Fishwick.

Directed by Deputy Artistic Director Erica Whyman and designed by Tom Piper, Romeo and Juliet begins previews on the 21 April 2018 and it will be broadcast live to cinemas on the 18 July 2018. A nationwide UK tour is planned for 2019.

Bally Gill made his RSC debut as part of The Other Place Mischief Festival in 2016, this year he appeared in Vice Versa, Salome and Coriolanus. He will now play the iconic role of Romeo, taking on his first Shakespeare leading role. His other credits include The Island Nation (Arcola Theatre), A Local Boy (The Arts Theatre), Dinner with Saddam (Menier Chocolate Factory), The Bureau of Lost Things (Theatre 503) and NW (BBC/Mammoth Screen).

Karen Fishwick will make her RSC debut playing Juliet. She most recently appeared in Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour (National Theatre of Scotland/Live Theatre). Her other credits include Glasgow Girls (NTS/Citizens), Hansel and Gretel (Citizens Theatre), The Caucasian Chalk Circle, A Christmas Carol (Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh), Badults (BBC Three), James Kirk's Comedy Blaps, The Illuminati (The Comedy Unit) and Tides and Telegrams (for The Winter Tradition).

The BP £5 tickets and BP Shakespeare Pass for 16 – 25 year olds gives access to £5 tickets for all RSC productions whether we are performing in Stratford-upon-Avon, London or on tour. The pass enables 16-25 year olds to see five shows in Stratford-upon-Avon for £20 – the cheapest way to enjoy shows at the RSC. Tickets can be booked in advance on the phone, online or in person with some available for sale on the day of the performance. The scheme is supported by Project Partner, BP.
